About me

Content designer with a storytelling background

I’m a content designer, writer, and editor with training in UX design.

I currently work at Shelter Scotland, collaborating with designers, developers, and user researchers to improve housing advice content and user experience.

From journalism to design

I began my career as a journalist, working in some of Europe’s top newsrooms, including ITV News and Sky News in the UK, and Euronews in France.

As a tech journalist, I interviewed founders of innovative companies tackling today’s biggest problems.

This gave me first-hand insight into the power of technology to make a positive impact.

Storytelling and discovery

Journalism gave me two fundamental things I now use as a designer:

  • expert storytelling skills, to communicate clearly and persuasively

  • discovery skills, to ask the right questions and get to the heart of a problem

I now use that toolkit to communicate the right message for users and organisations—through both words and design.

The pivot to design

My transition began when I led the redesign of a charity’s website. I had no idea what I was doing!

I even mocked up the final designs in PowerPoint. It was an eye-opening experience, and this process made me fall in love with design.

Working closely with the charity’s founder to bring his vision to life, my designs helped boost donations and enquiries, increasing the organisation’s reach and profile.

I like to get out of my comfort zone

Away from work, I love to push myself out of my comfort zone, whether that be climbing up cliff-faces, moving to a new country, or learning a new language.
